Not a Goal — an Identity
#identity
“I want to run a marathon” — that’s a goal. Goals get achieved, then they disappear. Habits built on goals snap the first time you miss a day.
A far more durable approach: define what kind of person you want to be, and act from there.
“I am a runner.” “I am a reader.” “I am someone who cooks.”
Not “I want to start running” — but “I run, because I’m a runner.” Same action, different inner mechanism. Identity is a compass. A goal is a finish line. A compass works always; a finish line only at the end.
Tip: write three “I am…” statements about the habit you want to grow. Put them where you see them every morning.
